What it is:

The ability to effectively supervise a team using a coaching mindset is a critical leadership skill that drives staff engagement, performance, retention, and overall organizational success. This interactive and transformative experience is designed to empower leaders with the skills and mindset necessary to become effective coaches within their teams. Leaders will learn to engage with their people in ways that accelerate learning and increase productivity while simultaneously helping transform the organization’s culture.

  • Deepen your ability to give solid developmental feedback – both genuine praise and constructive correction – especially when conversations feel “difficult.”

  • Understand the leadership challenges driving the move from a Manager to Coach style.

  • Build trusting relationships, increase accountability, and accelerate learning and growth by developing the Core Coaching Skills of Active Listening and Powerful Questioning.

  • Learn when to coach and when a mentoring or more direct approach is more appropriate.

  • Learn and practice the simple and effective GROW model of coaching– Goal, Reality, Options, Will.

  • Develop a personal action plan for integrating coaching principles into daily practices.

By the end of this workshop, participants will not only gain a solid understanding of coaching principles but will also have practical tools and techniques to apply a coaching mindset in their supervisory roles. Join us on this journey to become leaders and change agents who inspire and empower their teams through coaching excellence.

Size: Up to 20 leaders per cohort.

Format and Frequency:

  • Two-Day Workshop: An in-person two-day workshop. Participants will learn through a combination of methods, with a strong emphasis on active engagement.

  • Virtual Follow-Up Sustainment Sessions: All leaders will engage in additional Group Sustainment Sessions (virtual - 90 minutes each). The focus will be on discussing the practical application of and further building upon the communication and coaching skills learned in the workshop to reinforce and enhance those skills.

T E S T I M O N I A L

“I hired John and Laurie because of their experience teaching coaching, their passion for the work, and Laurie's deep knowledge of our functional work. John and Laurie thought deeply about catering the sessions to what we needed in EM at UVM: crucial conversations, how to help employees see greater impact, and motivating employees to add the fullest value.

John and Laurie showed us tools, models, and skills that could be used immediately to make an impact. They came at these big questions in really approachable ways that made the team feel safe. This was especially important as we practiced the skills that we were learning in real time. In the three business days directly after the sessions, I've used the skills at least once a day.

Yes, all leaders who want their leaders/supervisors to help employees and get the most out of them should think about hiring John and Laurie. No . . . not just think . . . go do so today!
